Ustra is a graphic novel that explores the hidden intimacy and social complexity within Indian barbershops. It brings together multiple fictional stories rooted in real cultural dynamics trust, masculinity, caste, class, rituals, and unspoken tensions. Through layered storytelling, visuals, and soundscapes, Ustra transforms a mundane grooming space into a lens for understanding vulnerability and human connection. The project aims to preserve a fading cultural practice while challenging perceptions of male intimacy and service relationships. Blurring the line between ethnography and fiction, Ustra reframes the barbershop as a site of confession, ritual, and identity where every snip carries a story.
